The Help (2011)

"In 1960s Jackson, Miss., aspiring writer Eugenia Phelan crosses taboo racial lines by conversing with Aibileen Clark about her life as a housekeeper, and their ensuing friendship upsets the fragile dynamic between the haves and the have-nots. When other long-silent black servants begin opening up to Eugenia, the disapproving conservative Southern town soon gets swept up in the turbulence of changing times."

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (2011)

"In the second installment of the two-part conclusion to the überpopular Harry Potter series, Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his best friends, Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson), continue their quest to vanquish the evil Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) once and for all. Just as things begin to look hopeless for the young wizards, Harry discovers a trio of magical objects that endow him with powers to rival Voldemort's formidable skills."
"It’s over; no more Harry Potter movies are coming to a theater near you. It has been over ten years and that entire time we were able to have a fantastic cast assemble that played all the main roles without change (with the exception of the death of Richard Harris). It has been a great ride for many fans and also a somewhat disappointing one for the novels purists. With this book end to the young wizard’s franchise, the audience is treated to a fun-filled, action packed finale.

Elite Squad: The Enemy Within poses questions

In a week when people are openly asking how best to police our streets, this Brazilian cop epic poses searching questions about gang culture and the dangers of state-sponsored violence.

The original Elite Squad won several awards but took some flak for glamorising the methods of BOPE, Brazil’s paramilitary police.

Writer/director José Padilha aims this more complex, narration-heavy sequel squarely at his critics.
Lt Col Nascimento (Wagner Moura) is reinstated but the brutal BOPE is now contrasted with human rights campaigner Diogo Fraga (Irandhir Santos). The first film’s narrow canvas also expands to explore the connections between slum votes and corrupt politicians.

As events unfold, it is Nascimento who comes to understand how badly he has misjudged the system. The result is a more balanced and satisfying story that’s still punctuated by heart-stopping action and eye-popping violence.

The Devil's Double was embellished for a Hollywood audience

It’s a shame director Lee Tamahori didn’t put enough trust in the source material for The Devil’s Double and felt the need to embellish it for Hollywood audiences.

At its bare bones, the real-life story of Uday Hussein (played by Mamma Mia’s Dominic Cooper) and the school friend he tortured and blackmailed into becoming his body double is fascinating and outrageous.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes is a smart reboot with plenty of promise

The summer’s biggest surprise is a smart and agile reboot of a franchise that last scored a critical and commercial hit way back in 1968. This modern-day prequel  – the seventh Apes movie – may lack the shocking power of that Chuck Heston classic but main monkey Caesar (Andy Serkis) represents a giant leap forward for special effects evolution.

The Smurfs fails by having human characters kids

Film Review: The Smurfs has some impressive 3D sequences and genuine laugh-out-loud moments, but the human characters are hard to care for.

Anyone raised on the 1980s cartoon series may vaguely recall that The Smurfs’ signature joke is to smuggle the word Smurf into as many expressions as possible. And should you still be Smurf enough to find that sort of Smurf absolutely Smurflarious you will Smurf this. Everyone else better find something else to Smurf.

Inbetweeners Movie 'will be the end and there won't be a sequel'

The comedy film, which premieres tonight in London, follows the four pals as they go on a lads' holiday in Crete before they go their separate ways to different universities.

Buckley, who plays Jay, said he thought the film was a natural end for the friends' adventures on the big - and little - screen. In an exclusive chat with, he revealed: 'I don't really think there's much scope for a sequel. I'm not sure where we can go with it. 'No one wants to see The Inbetweeners older and mature. I think it's got to be the end of the Inbetweeners which is really sad.'
